First Aid for Burns At any moment, you or someone around you might understand a wound or illness. Using essential first aid, you may be able to stop a minor mishap from getting worse. In the case of a serious medical emergency, you may even save a life. That’s why it’s so significant to learn basic first aid skills. Minor Burns If the skin is unbroken: Apply cool (not cold or ice) water for a minimum of five minutes by running water over the burn, soaking it in an exceeding water tub or applying a clean, wet towel. Use a moisturizing lotion, like aloe, once the skin has cooled. Protect the burn from pressure and friction and canopy with a clean, dry cotton dressing.
